Some infectious diseases can cause serious harm to pregnant women and their unborn babies. Vaccination during pregnancy helps protect both mother and baby, particularly in the early months after birth.
The following vaccines are available FREE for eligible pregnant women under the National Immunisation Program (NIP):
Respiratory Synctial Virus (RSV)
The maternal RSV vaccine is recommended for women between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy to help protect babies from serious RSV illness after birth.
Influenza (Flu)
The influenza vaccine is recommended during every pregnancy and can be given at any stage. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of influenza for both mother and baby.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
The whooping cough vaccines is recommended between 20 and 32 weeks of every pregnancy, althought it can be given up until delivery if required.
Vaccination during pregnancy helps provide passive immunity to newborn babies, protecting them during their first months of life.
