Did you know?
Some infectious diseases can cause serious harm to pregnant women and their unborn babies. Vaccination during pregnancy helps protect both mother and baby, particularly in the early months after birth.
The following vaccines are available FREE for eligible pregnant women under the National Immunisation Program (NIP):
Respiratory Synctial Virus (RSV)
The maternal RSV vaccine is recommended for women between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy to help protect babies from serious RSV illness after birth.
Influenza (Flu)
The influenza vaccine is recommended during every pregnancy and can be given at any stage. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of influenza for both mother and baby.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
The whooping cough vaccines is recommended between 20 and 32 weeks of every pregnancy, althought it can be given up until delivery if required.
Vaccination during pregnancy helps provide passive immunity to newborn babies, protecting them during their first months of life.

Vaccinations During Pregnancy
Cases of whooping cough (pertussis) have increased in Victoria in recent years.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that can cause severe illness, particularly in babies under 12 months of age.
Vaccination is recommended for:
- Pregnant women during each pregnancy
- Parents, carers and household contacts of young infants
- Healthcare workers and people working with young children
- Adults aged 50 years and over
- Adults aged 65 years and older
- Adults who have not received a pertussis-containing vaccine in the past 10 years.
