By the team at Lygon Everyday Chemist — Here for Good

If you’ve been feeling tired, sore or foggy, inflammation might be quietly at work in your body. At Lygon Everyday Chemist in Brunswick East, we often see people feel more energetic, move more freely, and improve their gut and skin simply by reducing inflammation through food, supplements, sleep and stress care.

What Is an Anti-Inflammatory Diet?

Inflammation is your body’s natural defence mechanism. When it becomes chronic, it can make conditions like arthritis, digestive discomfort, fatigue and mood changes worse.

An anti-inflammatory diet helps calm your immune system, balance hormones and restore long-term health.

Foods to Enjoy

  • Choose whole, fresh and colourful foods that naturally reduce inflammation.
  • Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables such as berries, leafy greens and tomatoes.
  • Use healthy fats like olive oil, avocado, nuts and seeds.
  • Include oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel for omega 3s.
  • Opt for whole grains like oats, quinoa, barley and brown rice.
  • Add flavour with turmeric, ginger and garlic, and sip green or herbal teas for antioxidants.

Foods to Limit

  • Try to limit foods that promote inflammation such as processed meats, sugary snacks, white bread, soft drinks and fried takeaway meals.
  • Reduce alcohol and avoid foods high in artificial colours, additives and sweeteners.
  • Swap seed oils such as sunflower or corn oil for olive or avocado oil.

Vitamins and Supplements That Help

Our pharmacists recommend TGA-approved, evidence-based products that support your body’s natural anti-inflammatory processes.

  • Omega 3 Fish Oil: BioCeuticals UltraClean EPA/DHA Plus for joint, heart and brain support.
  • Vitamin D: BioCeuticals D3 1000 for immune and bone health.
  • Magnesium: Herbs of Gold Magnesium Citrate or BioCeuticals Ultra Muscleze to relax muscles and improve sleep.
  • Probiotics: BioCeuticals Probiotic 5 Billion or Herbs of Gold Probiotic 60 Billion to restore gut balance and reduce inflammation.
  • Curcumin (Turmeric): BioCeuticals Theracurmin or Herbs of Gold Curcumin Advanced to reduce joint pain and inflammatory markers.
  • Herbal Stress and Sleep Support: Herbs of Gold Calm Care or Sleep Ease to help lower cortisol and improve rest.

Always speak with our pharmacists before adding new supplements, especially if you are taking prescription medicines.

Vitamins to Use Carefully

  • Iron and B12 should only be taken when a deficiency is confirmed.
  • Use Vitamins A and E only at safe, recommended doses.
  • Avoid unlisted or unverified herbal blends and always check for TGA approval for quality and safety.

The Role of Sleep

Poor sleep increases inflammatory hormones such as cortisol and IL-6.

Aim for seven to eight hours of restful sleep with a regular bedtime and screen-free wind down.

If you snore or wake feeling tired, we can arrange a sleep study or CPAP support to help you recover more effectively.

Managing Stress

Stress triggers inflammation. Mindfulness, walking, yoga and breathing exercises help switch the body into healing mode.

Ask our pharmacists about magnesium or adaptogenic herbal support to keep your mind calm and energy balanced.

We’re Here for Good

Our team can help you build your own anti-inflammatory lifestyle plan with personalised nutrition, supplements, sleep and stress advice.
